"New" for me S500
hi guys, i'm considering a 2005 S500 4Matic as a commuter (winter) car. it has 93k miles and being sold at a local benz dealer. Would you guys do it? i'm hoping to get at least 80k miles out of it? is it possible?
as we speak (or type), i'm going thru the sticky with all the notes about the S500, but if you guys have more insight I would greatly appreciate it.
I walked away from one that was a 2003 but had rust on the rear doors which was really weird to me, granted it was a private dealer, this other one is at a certified benz dealer.

If there is some warranty from the dealer, condition is at least 9 out of 10 and if the known stuff have been dealt with, the price is about right.
I would also ask for the VMI from the dealer before purchasing.

60 day warranty is good, try to push for more warranty instead of negotiating the price. Might be worth more than the 500-1000 they might come down.
What is the warranty covering?

4Matic
I live in New England and have a 2003s430 with 4matic and I never have any problems negociating the snow and ice. It's great! I live on a steep hill and it feels like 4WD to me as I ascend. Good luck!

2005 S500 4-Matic, 1978 450SL
I just checked trade-in value for my '05 S500 4Matic today - nearly $25K in Florida. It has 42,500 miles. Considering the fact you'd use the car in snow, and the higher mileage, the price is about right.
I drove the 4Matic in Baltimore/DC-ara snow. It was very good except on ice (because we could not use studded tires in that area) and I ran all-season tires. With studs, the car would have been marvelous; with winter tires, better than it was. Regardless, it was far better than front wheel or rear wheel drive, even equipped as it was.
And in Florida's torrential downpours, it is just great.

thanks guys, i appreciate the feed back. I took a look at the engine bay and it's ridiculously clean, but i did notice a little oil stain where the gasket is... if you're standing in front of the car, looking at the engine, the stain is on your left hand side where the two halves meet at the gasket. What do you guys make of that? normal?

That could be the result of a bad seal ring around the 6th cylinder on the left side. It is a known issue on the earlier models and there is a service bulletin about it. Seal ring cost $1.15.
I have seen that on mine some time ago but it is such a small leak, I have not done anything about it.
That could apply to you as well.
