TPS control module

My wife was told she needed a new control unit to fix the warning that shows on her dash when car is started. The light is orange and is the profile of a tire. She was quoted $700 for this repair. I think she is about to be scammed. Anyone else had a similar experience? She has a 2005 S430.

a low tire will cause that symbol to light up, and so can any critical failure in the TPM system such as a dead sensor in a tire or a dead main TPMS module (i've had both in my W220 S55)

A dead sensor costs less than $200 to purchase and have installed. A dead TPM module was about $700 or so for me, if I recall correctly.

what is the actual text of the error that should be accompanying the orange symbol?
