2002 S430 Loud?
I am experiencing the following;
Loud at start-up...then it quiets down...blower/fan?
Sounds almost like a diesel at idle...???
I recently did an oil change and most B-Service items at an indy shop.
Any suggestions...mufflers, resonator????
Should I have exhaust system checked too???
I don't mind spending the extra $$$, but only to a certain point.
What else are you noticing about the noises? It could be your engine/transmission mounts that are bad. My car was very loud recently too, with a lot of vibration and a rough idle. After changing the mounts, it was nice and quiet again and had that soft purr.

Have you thought that maybe your Indy put in the wrong oil? Sounds like maybe the oil viscosity is to thick when it is cold which is causing the lifters and rockers to tap tap tap like a diesel. Just a thought.

I don't understand why it makes that "diesel" sound because I changed my oil quite recently with Mobil 1. The shop that I had changed the oil before had placed actual oil claiming that it was better but noticing a tremendous difference in how the car was running I changed to synthetic but it still makes the diesel sound! Any solutions?!

Did 2 short oil changes with 0w-40 and replaced the belt, after that the noise is gone. I can hardly hear the engine running on idle.
Looks like even the loud whine at the first 10-15 second period after the cold start is almost diminished. I am attributing that to the combination of 2 short oil changes and the belt replacement.
Initially, along with the loud idle after warm up, I used to hear a ticking sound from the right side of the engine (passenger side). I do not hear the ticking anymore and I think this because of the short oil changes.
My car had been dealer maintained up until 09 and I started maintaining it after that. According to my records, the dealer has been changing the oil every 11-14k miles based on the FSS and I think this oci is too long for my driving habits (short to medium drives). Long intervals by the dealer may have caused some build up on my engine and doing shorter intervals with quality oil is helping clear up the mess.
(This is all based on my own experiences and observations)
