2002 s500
'02 S500 blowing smoke

My 2002 S500 w approximately 150K miles runs a bit rough due to lack of maintenance (economy and 4 year old twins). Anyway, sometimes when I try to punch it or it tries to downshift, it completely begins to stumble and misfire, then it blow a huge could of light gray smoke out. I can ease off the gas and let it breath a bit. Then it seems to adjust itself back and be fine. Any ideas what this is? Almost just feels like the timing belt is slipping, but it may be something to do with the oil pump...anyone??? help

Mercedes
do a full tuneup, new plugs, clean MAF, oxygen sensors etc. Should be less than $200 parts. See if that helps.

Black smoke indicates oil is burning or incomplete combustion, typical causes: bad seals, spark plugs fouled up, etc. as tusabes recommended perform appropriate maintenance.

White smoke indicates coolant getting into engine and combustion chamber, typical cause: bad seals, cracks in engine block, etc.

I agree with Corsa9000,
white smoke = coolant burning, usually a head gasket.
blueish smoke = oil leaking by into the combustion chamber.
black smoke = fuel issues.

Any check engine light on?
I would be looking at the plugs, wires, O2 sensors and filters
Good luck.
