Keyless Go

Anyone have this feature? My friend took delivery of a 2003 White S500, and he had Keless Go. I went to the dealer on Saturday to add it to my order, but was told my car left the factory and is on a ship.

I think I can add it when it gets to Maryland, but the cost will be higher.

Is it worth the cost?

Don't get it on the S series. You still have to carry a credit card size thing with you in addition to your key. The new E has the Keyless Go incorporated into the key. IMO, definately not worth the money on the S.

The new 2006 S will have fingerprint identifier on both front doors and near steering column to start car. That will be an option worth ordering.

I'm curious, is there an article describing this system anywhere? thanks!

Thanks GG.

I don't think on the S you need the card and the key, just the card. I agree, seems like a lot of money for what it is.

True, unless your card runs out of battery power which it will inevitably do when its the most incovenient. The key is the only way to turn on and open the vehicle if you have a transmission problem of any kind. I do not recommend taking the card alone (nor does Mercedes) unless you have the ability to get the keys easily. That said, I enjoy the feature immensely and just wish the transponder was in the key rather than a separate card.

You're right you don't need a key with you.....but would you ever travel without a key....or when you valet the car, etc. The way it is set up with the new E just makes more sense that you just keep your key in your pocket /purse.

The fingerprint ID/open/start/ and recognizes drivers seat and mirror setting...preferred climate control....and audio preference for each driver of the car.....is going on new A8 in second run of 2004 model year.

There was a write up a few months back in CAR magazine out of UK looking at future technologies and the Fingerprint ID was planned for all the German high end cars as they relased new top end models.....Audi wil be the first with the new A8.

PS The S8 will be soon to follow......looks like they'll put the Bugatti V16 in it.......that's 1001 HP......oh man, gotta love this German HP battle between Volks, MB and BMW

This May be a bad idea but I keep a "spare smart key" in the trunk hidden. I always carry the Card and if the battery does die i can call TeleAid and ask thm to unlock the car by sat. and I can just go in pop the trunk and start the car with that. BTW this is in a SL55 Not a "S".

GBaby, I agree w/MercManiac...it would be optimal to have it in the key, as the E class has.

Merc...how great would it be to have your fingerprint recognized, have your seats, radio, climate and other personal settings adjust as you open your door. That's technology I would pay for.

BTW, my brother in law is taking delivery of the new S8. He is an audi fanatic, swears by the car.

How is it actually "keyless go" when you are still carrying the actual key? I am referring to the smart key integration. I mean, once you are up to the car and the key is in your pocket, what's the big benefit of "not" sticking the smart key in the ignition vs. pressing some starter button? Is this benefit tangible or it purely psychological?

Mafia,

I'm still trying to figure that out! I can see how walking up to the car, pulling the handle, and pushing a button could be nice. If you use your car a lot, then it would be a plus.

But, from what I'm told, the E class has a better setup.

That's insane! What's the highest number of cylinders that can be crammed into a car? Looks like Mercedes will have a tough time topping that out. The S8 will compete against the S65 AMG and the S65 only puts out about 600 HP. This is quite interesting.

Well I love my keyless go and would not order another car without it.

I do agree, they should incorporate into the key so you don't have to worry about both, however the card is thin enough to carry in your wallet. I do carry the key in my pocket as it has my house and other keys on it. It is also useful if I need to open the trunk with my hands full in the parking lot.

In reality it is no big deal to carry the key with you. You just touch the door, it unlocks or locks. You get in, tap the brake, push the button and you are off. Does not sound like a big deal but when you get used to it, inserting the key becomes a hassle. Guess it is one of those things that spoil you, such as the automatic trunk closer.

and oh, if you are being chased, you hop in your car and don't have to worry about fumbling for your key, like they always do in the movies.

I've got the keyless go in an 03 S55 and LOVE it. I hadn't given much thought to the need to carry the key also; maybe if I went out of town I would.

It just means (for me) one less thing to worry about having in my pocket. If I've got my wallet, I'm set. Touch the door, hop in, touch the button and you're off.

Highly recommended.

Keyless Go is highly reccomended, like kmaker said. It's so fun to play with, use it, even just have the card sitting there staring at you with the Tri-Star

It makes my job (washing the cars) so much easier because i only slip this into my pocket (which aren't that big or nice because they are basketball shorts) so the card doesnt fall out!
