Charcoal Filter

Hello everyone...

I recently bought a used 02 S500. The original owner only drove the car for 36K miles. It did have service B done sometime in 04.

I asked the original owner and he confirmed that he never used the charcoal filter button. So, is it necessary to change it out yet? The car smells fine. It seems like the thing works when I push the button.

Do charcoal filters go bad over time? I'd rather not shell out $100 if its not necessary. The maintenance manual says change at 30K. But I would think they are assuminig it is used all the time.

Your thoughts?

The biggest problem with the filters is that they get plugged up, and can reduce airflow. Personally, I change out fluids and filters on time. A dealer can check the car's records to see if it was done.

You can change it out yourself or check them, it is a little bit tough getting in their, but there are a few easy DIY if you search for them.
