Mercedes S55 AMG
For 30k, you can get a lot of other more interesting cars- like an S55 or S600 even. The S500 for 30k is just a bit too plain for my tastes.

Have you got any pictures or the listing? The 2006 model year was the last year of the W220 generation with no recalls whatsoever. We have one and this car has minimal problems. You may be unlucky with many a broken amplifier, but that doesn't occur too often.

No matter what mileage or age, every used needs an indepedent inspection along with CarFax and such. Nevertheless, any car that is meticulously mantained will run well at any mileage. An extended warranty should be purchased too just to be safe.

I would keep an eye on that car if it a hard-to-find car in your area, but try to expand to the higher models as AMGs and 600s can be spotted there too, even though that is a challenge. The challenge is worth it though.

BTW you'll never go back after the S-Class. My family once looked at a CLS and we couldn't transition with less room lol

A Mercedes obviously!
I'd say it's not a bad deal, particularly if it is a well equipped 500, as the 500s in general do lack a lot of the nice features the 600s have as standard.

I'd certainly hold out for a 600 or AMG if you can, you won't be disappointed!

2004 S500 & 2011 Mini JCW
No doubt the AMG models are more exciting the V12 as well. However both will cost you more to run and insure. If that is no concern I would include these models in your search. Remember when you find an AMG model pay close attention many (not all) are run harder due to the fact they are the performance model for MB. They can take the punishment but only to a point. Have fun shopping.
