Windshield Wipers

Windshield Wipers
Guys, I took my 2002 S-430 to the dealership today to get the B service done. Since the wipers make noise I decided that I need new ones. I asked how much they cost and he said "$150.00 a piece." Another words $300.00 for a pair of windshield wipers. Honestly I think that guy must be smoking something. Any help on where I can get stock wipers from for cheaper than that? Thanks

You don't need new wiper ARMS - which might be $150 - you need new rubber inserts which are about $15. The instructions for changing them are in the owners manual and it takes 10 min.
I would also take your dealers advice as an indictaion of what a dumb**** he is and go elsewhere. what ekse are they overcharging for?

Thats what I thought too. Afterwards I found out the guy was new. You would think they would know there stuff. Oh well I looked at my reciept for the B service and they changed the blades under the service. So it didnt cost me anything at all.

Yeah mercedes wipers are squeaky. Here is a good fix though:
Try using rainx on the windshield. That kind of coats the winshield so the rain drops fly right off. It also makes that squeakyness go right away when the wiper are on.

Doesnt hurt to try it, right? Worse case is you've to pay $30 and buy a pair of inserts.

Here's a trick I learned at my local MB dealer....
Whenever I bring in my car for serivce I don't tell them the wiper blades need to be replaced, I tell them "the windsheil is smearing."
For some reason they give me the inserts for free. I paid for them yesterday, in fact, for the first time ever.

Avoiding high prices for replacement blades for the W220 has been problematic in the past. The OE blades are 27" (690,mm). The newer style blades (actually, Bosch Aero Twin blades) have commanded prices of up to $150 for a pair through dealerships.
I have in the past bought a 28" blade for the driver side, and a 26" blade for the passenger - since 27" blades are hard to find.
Last week I bought a set of TRICO blades, similar in appearance to the Aero Twins - they were awful. They were flimsy and did not make good contact with the glass, leaving unswept areas. When I tried to bend them for better contact, they came apart. The Rain-X blades look sturdier, but I do not like the look of the mount; it is not as nice as the OE.
I came across this site, selling Bosch Aero Twins at a reasonable price: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/se...ercedes%20Benz. These blades are supposedly the OE blades, packaged differently. The site offers styles for older models as well. Best part: Two blades are significantly less than dealer prices.
Also, the site offers a pair of Bosch Aero Twin blade inserts at a very reasonable price. I also came across a video on replacing the inserts, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE1ITsXohnM.
And, in addition, my dealership has lowered its price to $66 for a blade replacement set.

I have not found any site selling the 27" (930mm) Aero Twin inserts only.
airahcaz, the Rain-X Latitudes are probably fine, especially if you use one 28" and one 26" blade - or, you could cut about 1/2 inch of rubber off the upper end of the passenger side blade to prevent contact. I haven't tried them personally.
