My 2001 S430 developed a strange COMAND problem. Everytime I start the car, or turn on/off the COMAND the tape deck cover beeps, closes, beeps again, then opens. The tape deck cover stays open all of the time now and it will not keep a cassette tape inserted. It plays for a couple of seconds and then ejects. Any suggestions? Everything else works correctly.

 

hmm.. i wonder if using a tape deck cleaner could fix it??

u know the ones where u put a drop of solution into the tapes hole and insert it and press play?

 

Have had the same prob in my 01 for a year too lazy to try and find the prob, will b happy though if you let us know what worked for u

 

I just had my battery replaced at the dealer, and when I got the car back it had this same problem. Did you resolve it?

 

Have same problem after inserting cleaner best bet I pressed eject button got door to close use Cd player and now at start door opens then closes if malfunctions persists no access to Cd or radio this seems to be common with w220

 

This can happen when the Lid detect switch is faulty or tape deck malfunction.
unfortunately there are no simple fix to it. One thing I have come across is using the MP3 tape adapter that cusses this problem!
