Airmatic and Stiff Suspension when warm ambient temperature
Yr. 2000 / S430
Issue: Airmatic Warning display—but not an Airmatic problem—stiff suspension setting
When the outside (ambient) temperature gets warmer (65 degrees), my Airmatic warning turns on, and the suspension stiffens quite noticeably upon the warning coming on.
I have read (somewhere) that the sensor for the Airmatic also controls the settings for the suspension. So the good news is that the Airmatic system is not failing (case in point, my vehicle rises and falls as it should when it should—it has never been flat to the ground as we have all read with other Airmatic failures). The bad news is that anytime the ambient temperature reaches 65 degrees or so, the ride is quite stiff.
I have replaced the relay for the Airmatic system. No change.
So, my questions:
--What is the part that needs to be replaced (what is this sensor?)
--Where is it located?
--Is it a D.I.Y. job?
--Is it something else?
Thanks in advance

From recollection:
1. The message appears: "Airmatic--Visit Workshop". It is white letters, not red.
2. The height of the vehicle does not change. Only the ride changes--from "normal" ride to a much stiffer ride.
3. I have disconnected the battery and the issue persists.
Thanks for jumping in on this.

I am glad to read that somebody else has this circumstance of weather-dependent reaction from the suspension. Not glad that you share this problem, but it seems that somebody has to have had the problem fixed--but how?
Again, the passing comment previously received was that there is a sensor (that is part of the Airmatic and suspension system) that is malfunctioning in that the ambient / outside temperature causes it to adjust the suspension (to the stiffest setting).
