i was looking to get another smart key for my car since it only came with one. i see them selling on ebay for about $30 but my benz dealership says you can't reprogram a smart key to work with a different car. they say i need to buy a new one with a new mechanical key which would cost me $150. does this seem correct or can i have the key reprogrammed? i would appreciate anyone's $0.02 thanks

yea...im pretty sure they are rite bout the mechanical key...but u should try around...like maybe other benz places?

thanks. i'm in the new york area, but i'd be willing to maybe have it shipped to a benz dealership from another area. any suggestions on where to go and what their pricing is like?

Last I knew, you could only program 7 SmartKeys to a single vehicle in it's lifetime. I believe they order all keys through Germany.
