couple trunk lid questions
So I'm new to the benz world
my s600 has 2 buttons on the trunk near the license plate light, a smooth one and a bumpy one
the smooth one opens the trunk automatically but I can't figure out what the bumpy one does
I also can't figure out how to get the closing latch to emerge

My best guess is that your owner's manual discusses the opening and closing controls for the trunk. The W220 S-Class Encyclopedia at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...tart-here.html has a section on where to get manuals if you don't have them.
Extension of the closing handle is automatic. If it doesn't extend when the lid is open, then it is malfunctioning.

I've looked through the owners manual but didn't see any reference to the bumpy button
I wondered if the handle was malfunctioning but I can't even see where it might come from or be hiding in the trunk lid

The W220 owner's manual for '05 (the year I have) does not show a "bumpy button." It does show two buttons for cars equipped with auto close and opening.
A picture would help.
Also, since you have auto open/close for your trunk lid, I wonder if it even has the pop-out handle? Perhaps your owners manual gives some indication.
