Malfunction : Tail Light - Rear Fog Light S430 2004 4Matic - NEED HELP

Hello to all,

It seems that water was accumulating in my left tail lamp...I recently got the Malfunction : Tail Light - Rear Fog Light S430 2004 4Matic. I bought a new bulb and used dielectric grease...the error message is still on...I don't know what to do.

Does the light work now? If so, the warning light might code may have to reset using an OBD II scan tool. Some stores like autozone will loan the oBD II out. U can buy them for $50 to $400. I just bought one from Mac Tools for $250. The cheap do the trick. If you need to know how to use the tool use google or YouTube. It's a handheld device like an iPhone that plugs into your cars computer port under the driverside

65 Chevelle Wagon w/ C5 frame, 08 ML63, 04 S600, 04 E55,(sold) 00 ML55,(sold) 98 C43-55K Swap
check for burn marks around the contacts on the bulb socket and tail lamp backing, if it has a bad contact it will heat up and melt the plastic around the contacts causing a even worse contact. 2 ways to fix it. replace the whole tail lamp or solder pig tail wires to the socket and hard wire it to the backer with ring terminals and short screws. make sure the wires go to the correct contacts. That was a MB repair for 06 ml's and r's that had the same problem until they came out with a better socket. A simple key cycle with the lights off will reset the warning.

BTW a hand held code reader only reads engine codes, has nothing to do with a bulb out indicator. Those are created by the signal acquisition modules or "sam's" verses the "ME" or motor electronics that the code reader would read
