Thoughts on Ceramic Brake Pads?

My front brakes are squeaking more than I would like them to, and I was told by the MB service dept. that the front pads have only 20% life left. So, I was thinking about replacing them with ceramic pads. Tirerack sells some for the S500, but the reviews seem to be mixed. http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/resul...=Sport+Package Everyone seems to say that they dramatically reduce dust, but some say that they cut back on responsiveness and braking power. Would be interested in folks' thoughts here. Thanks.

As far as I have read on other forums and threads about brake performace in the search for better braking for my factory armored Level B4 S500 ceramic pads reduce brake performance aswell as dust. I preffer better performance. Maybe you should consider a complete upgrade kit.

My FAVORITE ceramic pad is the EBC Redstuff.

I have tracked on them, run my DD on them, and install them for my friends and family.

Low dust, Grip like hell, and are track worthy. Pretty much somes them up.

PS: Be careful when ordering them, as they often have two applications for each car. On my S600 Summit sent me the wrong ones

Thanks for the tip. They do seem to have two sets for the front. http://www.summitracing.com/search/Y...nk%7cAsc&RC=25 DP31363C and DP31487C.

I just replaced mine with pads from wagner called PerfectStop (Ceramic) ....found them at bennets auto supply for 50 bucks (Which is very cheap since i have a S55) and after a week i have to say they are as good as the akebono that i had before...for a third of the price. On their website they have no application guide so i dont know if they make them for the normal s break system. But worth checking out!!

Akebono ceramics all day. I have those in the front and Redstuff in the back. The akebonos grip fine, and they dust way less than the Redstuff.

I can go months without washing my front wheels and they still look clean.

NOT that it would matter for most people here, but talking with Tirerack and others around the track, Akebono's are NOT up to heavy duty usage.

They might dust less then Redstuff, but they sure as hell don't work as good either.

Ditto on the Akebonos....
I love mine and just like Oliverk, I can go a month and a half without washing the wheels....
I also don't track my car...

EBC RED BRAKE PADS

Been interesting reading this guys, I have been thinking of ceramics for my old timer ('88 300CE).

There is an ad on fleabay for EBC Red's here in OZ, quite expensive I think but there's some interesting info within the ad - might be worth having a look at ! Cheers
