What tire size can i go up to

Hey guys i want to buy new tires for my benz and want to increase size. My s500 4 matic came with 225 55 17 i want to know how big ( not nothing crazy like 22s) but something that will still have the nice ride and look good. It came with cooper cs4 tires and i seen in some tires sites only 18 is max but i seen on the forum benzes with 22s. I want to be careful not to mess up anything in axle. Thanks

Well, if you have seen 22s on the forum then you already know how big you can go. Just bear in mind that the larger the rims the more you will sacrifice in the ride comfort. A lot of people who get the 22s come to realize early on that the tires are stressed quite a bit and you will be on the side of the road often changing tires. I would highly recommend against the 22s if your wife is driving the kids to school in this car or she is using it to commute to work in the dark. Yes, bigger can look sportier but there are limits to the durability to the rubber. I personally won't go larger than 19s but that is a personal preference. I feel like they are plenty sporty and if I am driving a car that costs $150K and has massagers in the seats then I want a nice, smooth, quiet ride.

But that's just me.

I have 22"s on my car and it rides amazingly smooth compared to any other car I have ever driven.
