Hey guys I am interested to know how much people have spent on there cars so far. This is including how much the car was, how much you spent on mods and what kind of mods, how much you spent on maintenance and what kind of repairs you have done not including tires and breaks unless you got like a big break kit. Please add anything I missed.

success story

2003 S500 sport, purchased in 06 for $41k otd with 2 year factory warranty 44k miles on the clock. first two weeks of ownership replaced EIS and two sam's under warranty. now has 84k miles and not a single penny spent on "repairs". all DIY, engine oil 0/40 mobil one and wick filter every 6 months , tranny flush at 50k and about to do another one, all other filters replaced as specified by MB interval. this has been our best MB to date and the first one i have kept outside warranty.

Awesome good to hear she is running strong. Seems to me that our cars are built strong because mine has not had to many problems also and i have 139k. I bought the car a year ago from original owner for 6,800 with 117k. it was worth the five hour drive from sf to la. So far i had to replace the driver seat module 250$,spark plugs and wires 350$,ball joints and tie rod's 380$ that's it for repairs. For my upgrades i did the tail light's 03+ 125$,front oem headlights 03+ 380$,wood grain steering wheel $free, lowering links i don't remember i think it was @225$. plus tires and breaks all around don't remember how much all that was i'm still under 10k

My wife would say "WAY Too much!"
For perspective: 90k miles on the clock now.

However, in the last 12 months my S600 has had the following:

REPAIRS:
Tire TPMS sensors w/ installation: $350
Idler pulleys (2), tensioner assembly, drive belt, w/ install @ indy mech: $600
24 spark plugs (self installed): $250
2 ignition coil packs (self installed): $2200
Coolant, manifold pressure (4), and air temp sensors: $400
Replaced AC pushbutton Panel: $450
Replaced Duo Valve assembly: $300
Replaced Fan Relay: $250
Replaced Blower motor: $200

MAINTAINANCE:
Air filters: $80
Fuel Filter w/ install: $140
4 Rear tires: $900
About to take it in for new brakes on all 4 corners: $$$$
4 Oil changes $ 600

I know I'm missing things, but that's it in a nutshell...not to mention the HOURS spent under the hood on my own trying to diagnose and DIY.

90k is dangerous i think these cars have most problems happen between 75-100k

Mercedes
paid $5400 4 years ago, put on about 15k miles, had to replace transmission (bought used from another forum member) and recently changed the CPS

other than that, just maintenance items like brakes, tires and 2 oil changes.

Only mods Ive done is the wood steering wheel. Im going to give a light tint to my headlights to match the car color.

I bought my 2006 S500 in October 2011 with 58,000 miles in nearly perfect cosmetic condition. I paid $27,000 for the car. Right off, it needed new tires (roughly $1,200 mounted and balanced), new wheels (roughly $800 for AMG replicas and $60 for the OEM blue laurel MB center caps) because 3 of the stock wheels were slightly bent, new rotors and ceramic pads all around (roughly $1,200), a new, thicker, wood steering wheel (roughly $900 installed), new interior light bulbs for the door handles (roughly $150 installed), and a detail and tint job (roughly $350). Some time later, I noticed one tail light lense was cracked, so I got new ones (roughly $200 installed). It still needs new TPMS ($300-400, I think?), but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet. I eneded up sinking more into my car than I was intending, but I also

ADD TO THE LIST THIS WEEK:
1 new secondary air injection pump $600 installed (at indy mechanic)
2 new upstream O2 sensors $200 installed.
1 new thermostat housing $100 installed.
2 new rear tires (275/40/18 Michelin Pilot A/S Plus ZP) $600
(Trying these instead of the Conti DWS because they didn't have the wider size available).

I'm being told my front brakes are about shot (they just started to squeal), so expect another update within a month for those too!

But yes, AH1W-COBRA, when the car is purring and running properly, she's SOOOOO worth it!

2007 E63
i bought a 2007 E63 a couple of months ago for $25,000 with 70k miles.yes i got a great deal.the car was stolen last year for 9 days and Progressive Ins. had to pay in full to original owner, then Progressive auctioned it off.the car has a title that says rebuilt vehicle;theft.the car is pristine though.the car has never had any body parts replaced or painted.the only problem was a cracked side view mirror glass.i figure i paid a fair price as far as the car business is concerned.i got it about $6,000 back of wholesale, but it has a funny title.

since buying it i replaced the motor mounts($500),spark plugs($200) and oil($100)even though the guy who bought from Progressive just did it,i want to make sure it's right.also did OE Tune($1100),Forgestar wheels $1300 shipped,Goodyear Asymmtric 2 tires($800) even though the old tires were 80% life left,i didn't like them.they were sumitiomo htzr2.

i did the spark plugs early and did the motor mounts b/c they were shot.really motor mounts were the only thing wrong with the car,it is mint and i was shocked when i went to look at it.i was in the car business for 10 years and rarely take the time to even look at a vehicle with a rebuilt title.but the car was only 2 hrs away(found on Ebay)and the guy swore up and down that it had ZERO paintwork,he was right.

i will need brakes in 5-10,000 miles and i am buying a full 2 piece set from Benz Works, and i'm done with mods as there aren't a lot of good, easy mods available for this car.

anyway i can't believe how perfect of a car the E63 is.i can't believe everything works on it and the paint and leather both perfect.it is a well built car and i couldn't be happier.and the best part is i only spent $25,000 instead of $35,000.

The car was a salvage title right? You payed 25k for it? Kinda confused in your post?

the title says,"rebuilt,theft inspection passed"

yes,i paid $25,000 for it with 72,000 miles.i figured wholesale to be $31,000 at the time so i got it $6,000 back of wholesale.mine has navigation, keyless go,and both P1 and P2 packages.the only thing the car needed was motor mounts.although i won't let that stop me from spending money on it.

honestly i couldn't be happier with it.i had an '02 E55 and an '02 M5 and this car is twice as nice as either of those cars.

basically the title is rebuilt, but the car was never wrecked.it was stolen, paid off by Progressive and then recovered and sold cheaply by Progressive.

MB 2003 S600. Volvo 2003 XC70.
Post

At this point, I've completed all major repairs and scheduled maintenance after purchasing my 2003 S600 earlier this year.

Within this 4 months I spent $4400 on this car and here is a summary:
- Repair: $1100, include, engine misfire, transmission leaking, Crankcase Ventilation valve broken, fenders' rust and repaint...
- Maintenance: $1900, include, spark plug, fluid/filter for (engine/trany/ABC/steering/differential/cabin/air/fuel), ABC Valve Block, wiper...
- Wheels and tires: $1400 include one set of AMG wheels, summer and winter tires.

I think the car is in pretty good condition now. All these repairs and maintenance should give me worry free for another 100kkm. In case there is no more issue and maintenance tasks I may start spending time on upgrade.

For all my maintenance and repair details, please ref:
https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...2003-s600.html

Thanks.

Howard

I think we can see the S600 can be expensive.

The S500 and S430 are less so.

My "A" service runs $250; because I drive less than 13,000 miles per year, it is done annually. Performed 4 times during 7.5 years of ownership, total $1,000.
"B" service runs $350, also performed 4 times during ownership. Total, $1,400.

Periodic additional service at mileage or anniversary intervals will cost more.
--flush brakes and cooling system every 2 years, around $160. Done 4 times in 8 years, total around $640.
--change all engine & pax compartment filters at 30K and 50K, $45 per, $90 total.
--change transmission fluid at 50K miles, $270.
--Total for the above periodic items in 7.5 years of ownership, $1,000.
The "B" service, brake & cooling system flush, transmission fluid change, and cabin filter change done at 50,000 miles last week ran just under $800 ($385 parts, $357 labor, plus tax).

I am picking up a slight engine vibration at idle - engine mounts and transmission mounts are beginning to need replacement, that will cure it. Estimate is $850 for all ($394 parts, $402 labor, plus tax). The 4Matic requires more labor, so RWD will be somewhat less expensive.

I have had to replace a rear retracting seat belt because I screwed it up (not a malfunction) - around $600.

Replace TPMS sensors $660 ($360 parts, $300 labor by dealer including tire rotation; there is now a MUCH less expensive way to do this - around $300 tops).

I installed a Dension Gateway 500 to add iPod capability, $450. Only the '03 S-Class has an AUX jack, so I couldn't use that - plus, the direct fiber optic input provides much better sound. I also added the OE wood steering wheel, $1100 installed, and a matching wood shift knob, around $300, self-installed. BTW - and though this really doesn't belong here, yesterday I purchased software for my iPhone called MyTunes, by SRS (which used to mean "Sound Recovery System") - it provides audio enhancement for iPhones and for the iTouch. And it does a fantastic job. Though I record my music in AIFF or Apple Lossless formats, the software performs major enhancements to the music quality - over Bluetooth in my 450SL (which is equipped for that), or plugged into the Gateway 500 or the adapter in the SL; also over ear buds, or anything with which you listen to the iPhone or iPod Touch. SRS makes similar enhancement software for non-Apple systems too. One of the best $6.99 investments I have made.

Back to it. Nav DVDs are around $275 per year. I update every other year.

Interior blower motor and regulator replaced and A/C serviced under warranty at 31,000 miles. Front Airmatic struts were replaced at 6,000 miles under warranty because they rose at different rates. No problems with Airmatic since.

My costs for maintenance at service intervals has been $4,060 in 7.5 years. Updating nav DVDs averages $137 annually, or $1,100. Updating every year would double the cost. One would not normally screw up a seat belt the way I did, so I discount that. I also discount the cost of adding the Gateway 500, steering wheel, and shift knob - those were purely optional.

Basically, my S500 4Matic has cost around $800 per year to maintain. Adding the cost of the upcoming engine and transmission mount replacement will bring that to around $900 per year. The OP discounted brake wear and tire costs - my brakes have not needed replacement - my tires did, at a cost of $1200 for high quality Michelins. Including tires, the cost would average close to $1,000 annually. I do not find that excessive for a high end luxury car.

One can easily see how costs can lump together, or stretch out. You may experience a very good year, needing only an "A" service for $250. The next year could easily cost you $1,000 for "B" service, periodic items, and a nav DVD upgrade. And if you need your struts replaced (best if done in pairs) you could be looking at $1600 to install rebuilt Arnotts, including labor (compare $4,000 to have the dealer install new OE). Thus, the oft-repeated advice when looking at a preowned car - either look at purchasing an extended warranty (such as the Fidelity Platinum warranty) or keep around $3,000 in the bank as your own insurance.

High mileage driving will obviously run the costs higher, since routine service and additional service at specified mileage intervals would occur more often.

I'm looking at about $500 per year, if that.
