W220 After market radio electrical problems
Major Advice needed
I have a 2000 S class W220 LWB
It has been off the road for approx 4 months now with what started as a engine light coming on with no power at the accelerator pedal
Mechanic diagnosed that the throttle body needed replacement and alongside this he replaced the accelerator pedal as well. Immediately following this (and for the past 4 months) the car has intermittently jumped into ESP & BAS faults Visit workshop
I brought the car to a mercedes specialist who ran the necessary STAR tests etc and available live data reports. They, through a series of tests diagnosed that the ECU had gotten damp (with mould present on the pins) and they systematically replaced all the wiring looms, ECU etc etc. New steering wheel, Ignition system etc (all from the same donor S Class) were added.
After all this work the car still shows the same fault. One last issue has arisen and that is with the aftermarket DVD/CD player that I ahd fitted some weeks before the car caused its original problem
My question is this:
Given that the previous Merc radio and CD player had speed control functionality and the fact that after the new CD player had been fitted we had no audio control at the onboard computer and zero steering wheel controls, could the new DVD player (Ripspeed) be causing a problem in the CAN communications???
Apparently if one of the many signals that the CAN requires is missing the throttle body will be closed as a safety measure???
Any experience anyoine might have would be really appreciated as this car is potentially a write off given the current problem!!!!!!
