Changing Pads and Sensors

Hi guys, I did a search and found some great info, however I still need a bit of help.

How many wear sensors are needed for the brake job? is it two or 4? one for each wheel I assume? Also, do the pads need to be removed to put in the sensors? I had the pads done, but realize the sensors were never changed out. I personally did not do the job, however I am aware on how to do it.

Thanks in Advance.

this is an 03 S500.

My 04 took 2 sensors. one up front on passenger side, and one in the rear.

If you really wanted to, you could change out the fronts without removing the pad, but you would risk breaking them, as they are cheap plastic.

It would only take a couple of minuets per side to change them out properly, IMHO.

PS: The sensors were cheaper at MB then they were at Autozone, go figure

How weird, I just had my front brakes done on my S600. Gave the mechanic the rotors, pads, and two sensors to install. When done, he handed one of the sensors back to me in the package saying he just needed one (and the pads, saying I apparently ordered the pads for the rears...oops). I don't know if that means I only have one sensor, or if I have two and he re-used one (I was getting a "brakes return to workshop" message).

your risking many issues with balance, vibration, wear, safety hazards by not changing or inspecting/turning your rotors.

He was right, and I was wrong. It was so long ago I forgot that there was only ONE up front when I typed it in at work. SORRY
