s500 wheels rubbing

I had some amg wheels lying around from a 2006 cls500 sport (the twin spoke design 8.5 in front and 9.5 rears)that i decided to try on my 2001 s500. The front wheels are fine but the rears rub inside the wheel wells. The current tire sizes are 255/40/18 and 285/35/18. My question is will replacing the tires to 265 or 275 eliminate the problem?

i believe the stock tires sizes for those wheels should be 245/45/18 & 265/40/18.

Your rubbing problem is most likely related to improper wheel offset miss-match from the CL to the "S".

And the CLS:

Ye offsets were a problem so I put spacers on but they were way to wide so I bought shorter lug bolts from the dealer. Now they're fine just the tires rub a bit. I'm going to try putting a 265 in the back see if that solves it
