Question Time for an upgrade!!

Hello All-

After much thought I've decided to unload my 1989 560SEL and upgrade to a W220. My 560 has served me well and has provided many great memories. The "Bismarck" (it's name) is at a point where my mechanic says its time to let it go and stop pouring money into it.

So, for the W220 chassis what years/models/options should I avoid and what years should I seek out? I did a "buying advise" search and the results were poor so I'm turning to the drivers of this chassis.

Thanks for all your advise and input in advance!!

Mercedes
the newer the better
avoid the 2000-2002 s600 entirely
avoid the s55 and s600 and the s500 with ABC option if you arent prepared for mid 4 figure suspension repairs (The s55 and s600 all have ABC, s500 had it as an option)

Get a prepurchase inspection from MB dealer or MB specialist independent mechanic

check the sticky "Start Here" thread to see other types of common w220 problems to check for (trans sensor and mount, shifter stuck in park, airmatic struts and relay, ball joints and control arms etc)
