There could be a loose fiber optic connection at the CD changer. That was my problem with 2002 430.

I have observed the same thing which seems to be heat related. no sound after sitting in the hot sun, but the navigation in comand still functions. DAS reports open fiber between comand and teleaid. Problem goes away when car cools down from the outside heat.
I have just swapped out my MP40 digital player back to my CD player and waiting to see if the problem reoccurs. http://www.mercedes-player.com/Mercedes-Player-MP40/en

So if I have solved it, then the MP40 player is failing in heat. IF not, then it has something to do with the optic-ring failing in hot weather.
