Realistic private party value of 05 s500 4m
I'm super close to pulling the trigger on this car:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE-...item3ccb26ed0d
so, due to a lack of space, i'd need to get rid of the s500, so what do you guys think is a realistic asking price:
2005 S500 4 matic
46,200 miles
Designo Espresso (blackish/brown metallic)/brown interior, full leather
sport package
Distronic
rear seat package (heated/cooled/reclining)
Parktronic
Keyless Go
Side shades
Trunk closer
Voice recon
Rear Air
Dynamic Seats
Bluetooth
Exterior condition 7/10 (some stone chips and door dings, minor scratches)
Interior condition, 9/10
Whattya think guys? I'm thinking list for about $26k and expect maybe $22 or $23k?
thanks.

oliver that bentley is an absolute beaut. honestly speaking with the amount of miles on your car and being a 4matic designo with sports package makes it a rare car. i think 26k is a very fair price for your vehicle. people always negotiate and will most likely knock a few grand off anyways, but knowing what that car is and the rarity of it , i doubt you will have a hard time selling it. goodluck

Russian Car/Russian House/ Russian Driver? Doesn't smoke? hah
Now way your getting 20x for a 500 model nowdays.
If people are paying low 20's for 60-70k miles 55-60's. they will justify it and buy that. You can try anyway, wish you the best of luck.

s5, thanks and I agree, it is a rare and almost fully loaded low miler.
Geld, Its a tough market out there for the 220s and I realize I may see some lowballers. That said, I think there is some value in the car that would have it sell for low 20s.
$2k one way or another is not going to make or break the deal, but I'd prefer to get a fair price if possible.
thanks for your input gentlemen.

Buyers who really want an S-class like yours that aren't looking for the AMG engine, I would probably pay around 24k if your paint is still in good condition, excluding those flaws you mentioned.. Low mileage and ALL those options just blow all others away, including some 03-04 S55.

With a good detailing and some PDR (which I'll likely have done), the exterior will look great, minus a few bumper scratches and rock chips.

Good miles, nice spec, good colour. I think your expectations are reasonable, IMO.
As much as I like the designo it may be a harder sell on those who don't know or appreciate W220s though.
Nice choice on the Flying Spur, when it comes round to getting rid of my 600 next year I'm certainly going to look at one in addition to a W221 S600, S8 etc.

There is one other reason why you can't sell your W220...I'll be the only one round here to bash people for tasteless, showey, non-OEM mods

Designo AMG
I say keep it and buy the new one. Then you'll have matching interiors
Either way, someones going to get a great car. If you were local I'd totally love to get some of your parts.

OliverK do post pics of that S500 if you sell it. I have seen pics in bits and pieces but I hear your S500 is out of this world! I hope you get your asking price and BTW the Bentley is beautiful!

While I can't answer your questions regarding price, I'd love to see photos of your car. The Designo interior sounds beautiful. Also love the options that this car has. You mention it almost has everything, what is it missing?

I need to clean it up and post some pics.
Its missing the heated steering wheel and the 4 place seating. I think thats it.
It really seems stupid to pay $70k extra for the bentley, but there is something about it that REALLY calls my name.
Thanks for the compliments gents...enjoy your weekends.

Well, its tough. I would need to get at least a designo, because I don't want to loose the full leather interior. Furthermore, while I like the outside of the 221, the interior design is just off to me. I simply prefer the more traditional 220 layout.
I guess I'm just looking for something even a little bit more special.
Plus I love that brown interior.

too each his/her own
Unless one is a member of the Royal Family some might regard owning a Bentley as a bit ostentatious. To quote TS Eliot, the S is "rich but modest."
Indeed, I think the asking price of the Brooklyn Bentley as way off the mark.
(the heading above uses "too" as in "too much"

I'm not sure why you feel the flying spur price is high. Its about right for mileage and year.

It all depends on your area and the neighborhood. In many areas, even an S Class or Benz in general is seen as you being an affluent person.
In terms of pricing I can see the OP's perspective. He's used to a car with certain options and a certain level of appointment/ color configuration and is willing to pay more than market value to have the specified car he wants. As far as the S-Class is concerned, we would then be looking at only S600 or S65 models which have full leather and a higher chance of having a Designo interior with a more special interior color than all black or all tan. At the price point for a V12 221 we are looking at Flying Spur pricing territory.
Not like the OP needs my support but I totally see where he's coming from and fully back him on this choice.

Other things to bear in mind are Bentleys hold their value very well. A $75k FS may lose a handful of a few thousand dollars per year from here on but a $75k S Class in four years will be worth about $25k.
Also having read a little the reliability is top notch with VW/Audi underpinnings.

The Bentley has depreciated a ton. It's now started to level out on depreciation. You could've gotten the Bentley Flying Spur a few years back for around the same price that they're going right now. Trust me, they also depreciate pretty badly, just like the S-Class. The only difference is that it'll be a slower decline now, but do keep in mind the next gen Flying Spur is just around the corner which will lower the value considerably more.
Don't know what area you live in but my friend's Maserati got keyed in Seattle from front to back and a friend's friend's SLR in SF got keyed all the way around.

I'm not saying they don't, just that it's not as bad as an S Class. S Classes seem to hit the bottom of the steepest part of the depreciation curve at about $30k, whereas for a Bentley it's much higher. Of course an FS is much more than an S to start off with but...

MBWorld Fanatic!
Yeah that's what I was getting at. Percentage wise we're looking at about the same. If an S-Class has a sticker of 100k and bottoms around 30k, you lose 70%. If the Bentley stickers around 220k and bottoms out at 75k you lose 66%. Just looking at the percentages they're about the same from my totally unscientific way of looking at MSRPs and going used values. heh
