no doubt both cars are great but ...the 7 series is cheaper then the S430 and stronger then the S500 but its shape, exterior, and interior is ugly compared to the S-class... the 7 series is not nearly as elegant as the S-class...sure the old s classes may look outdated but the 2003 s-class with the projector headlamps are AWSOME...

o yea and plus....its the name brand guys....MERCEDES-BENZ

compare to that...

o yea and the interior...by the way... the 2003 s class upgraded to a bigger monitor for the navigation.

heres a shot of my 2003 S-class..(note**my bumpers may look different from other s class because i bought an after-market Lorinser body kit)

Definetly take the 745Li over the S500. Everyone has an S-Class and its very rare that you see the new bimmer. When it comes to the room and comfort hands down its the 745Li. The only benz thats beatin it is the maybach. when it comes to performance its the bimmer again. how can you go wrong wit a 333hp v8?? I hate to say it since im a die hard benz fanatic but benz lost to the new 7 series in comfort cuz bimmer wit either match benz or out do them but when it comes to performance the new 600 is gonna eat everything alive.

Your right I mean brushed aluminium but still... No one else finds it clashes too much?

Performance wise the S class will beat it in your simple straight line the 7er weighs quite a bit more than the S class. Comfort would go to the S while interior room would go marginally to the 7 series (3 inches extra for leg room while everything else is the same). I say marginally because I dislike the rear seats.

You are right though there are lots and lots of S classes around its near the end of its design and the BMW definetly looks fresher.

I just sold my 2000 S 500. I bought a 2003 745LI. Why? Plain and simple WARRANTY! I had a nightmear car and in and out of service like you wouldnt beleave. I understand 2000 was a terrible year but they just did not want to address any of the issues.

745LI came with a FREE phone. Maintence warranty (4 years and I have to change tires only) and basiclly the iDrive is great if you use your car as a office in motion.

I still love Benz but I must admit BMW is better and I really think because it is owned by a german car company. Chrysler cuts corners, always have and always will.

But in the end, both cars are terrific, my friend just got his 2003 s55 and he loves it and it is rocket fast. my s class replacement

2003 S500
your absolutely rite jason. My dad had the 2000 S500 and got rid of it cuz it was in service alot. He got rid of it and got the 2003 S500. Some how i think the 2000 is faster than the 2003 because i think its a bit heavier. anyways, he got the 2002 745Li and he is having too many problems with the i-Drive because every car has problems its first year out. there arent too many differences between the 2002 and 03. I was sayin before that the bimmer is better overall but no one wanted to believe me.

Hi Jason,

sorry to hear that you had such a poor experience. remember...MB purchased Chrysler so i can assure you that all MB's are truly German automobiles. plus all MB's now have factory service for i believe the first 50000 miles. i bet you got a great deal on your new 745i and if i'm right that you did get a great deal the reason is the 7's aren't selling well. the exterior appearance along with a lot of problems..glitches are hurting sales.

The BMW 7 Series is a hit here in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I have already seen the new BMW 5 Series on the road too.

The BMW is certainly no beauty in my view.
Interestingly enough, in Germany, the country that has countless BMW fans, the 7 series is one of the most hated cars.
More interesting yet is that the automotive press is not as impressed with the performance either (btw. I prefer reading the German reviews as they actually put the cars to their paces; just can't judge the cars at 60 mph or going fast for a few miles only)

In Europe, the BMW has a great diesel version and the cars braking capabilities and rear seat space is the only great things frequently commented on. It is also rated below the new Audi 8 with the exception of the suspension.

While the 745/S500 are very close in performance, the S600 outclasses the 760 is every respect, even in the gas milage.

When I drove the 745 I was actually shoked that this car just doesn't drive like a BMW anymore. Very competent, yet very isolated with very little contact to the road, more like the previous S class (140 body). The Audi A8 sounds interesting and is well rated, but the bland exterior design is just a turn-off for me...

My 2 cents

Wolfman

Bimmer rocks.. this is coming from someone that currently has both. The drive on the Bimmers are alot more enjoyable as the "driver". Reliability is another matter. And looks, well everyone has their own opinion.
