Thanks but the $'s are too high for me
Thanks but $80K is too high for me. Sounds like a nice car though. Guess I'll have to settle on one of these '01 S-500's I'm looking at...

Another idea...
I know that some of the dealers around here consign cars. You might want to go down to the local MB dealer, tell them that you want to sell it now and then pick up a CL later, they may be willing to help you out. Also, since it's under warranty and would be at a dealer, theres a good chance that you'll be able to get the top dollar that you expect out of it. Also, in my area there are some smaller used car dealers who just specialize in high-line consignments. I find that often times, people feel much more comfortable spending 80k at a dealer, even if ultimately theyre really buying the car from another party.
Thanks,
Adam

s55, i didnt mean to discourage you. i was just saying that we both wont get anywhere close to edmunds price on the car, and if you wait and say you wont sell it under, then it will be even more worthless. take your losses and accept it cuz u bought a car that only people who can afford to lose a lot of money in a quick period of time. my offer of 50k was a joke, but if you said yes, i'd take it.

This S55 is a WORLD different than a kids S-class
No offense to Apricot but there is a WORLD of difference between this S55 and his high mileage boat. Don't get me wrong, the S-class by itself is a nice vehicle. But this S55 has about a 1000 times better chance of getting a reasonable figure due to a number of reasons. #1. It's an AMG, not simply another S-Class, #2. It's got LOW mileage, #3. It's well within warranty for quiet some time yet. #4. A professional owns it (not some teenager who's done who knows what to the car). IMHO Appricot should car his car down to the local CarMax and take whatever they will give him and then walk over to the Honda dealership and use the cash as a down payment towards a nice reliable, and more appropriate for his age group, Honda Accord. OK, so I did mean to offend Appricot. But he's young and I'm sure he will get over it. Just being plain truthfull here...BTW - If you consider selling this S55 in the low $60's let me know. I hear there is snow in the forecast for hades....

Volvo would be good ...
for you Apricot. Personally, I can't STAND the way the headrest on the newer models forces your head forward. I always feel like I'm driving with my chin on my chest in my mother-in-law's S80.

did you say you wanted a CLK 430 for even trade
LoL... just kidding,
Good luck on moving the car, market seems to be down on all benzo right now... the mb dealer hit me a $21000 for a 99 CLK430. Not to bad, but still hurts when your trying to move up to a S class that they have marked up like $10K above retail..
I wish i was in your boat
having to move a S55 for CL55

nda, ive never been in one, but its probably that way because its the safest position for your head when you hit a truck at 70mph. Volvo is all about safety! I might be getting a passat. 2001, 29K, Manual for 16800?

u think its safe? now im lookin at another one with 4motion and 22K w/ cd and leather and power seats and etc. for 19K. Beautiful car, I won't get judged as a rich kid for having (hopefully). They seem quite luxurious

update
here's an update....
contacted the dealer where i purchased the car.
the *****s only offered me 76000. that's a pretty crappy
number. i've given these guys a ton of business between purchasing personal and work vehicles from them. now i reevaluating whether i will do any business with them in the future. so then i contacted another dealer through a
friend and they feel they can get me the 80000. they felt that
80000 was a good number...not to high not to low. they offered
to place it on ebay. they said they could sell it easier than i could because they can take in a trade against the car that might fit their used car inventory better. i should have more info by friday.
i'll keep you guys posted.

On a 2002 S55 with 6000 miles, Kelly Blue Book lists Trade In Value at $81,450. Private Party value is listed at $87,650. Used car retail value, which you will never get is listed at $94,060.00.
Keep in mind these values are geographically set for the Southern California area. Your area may vary.
The trade in value of course is what dealers will attempt to offer you. In the case however it seems dealers will low ball this value.
Used car retail is supposedly what your car is worth if you attempt to sell it yourself.
And Retail value is what a dealer would normally attempt to sell the car for.
Of course, with the economy and the soft market right now, these values are a little high.
My local dealer just sold a 2002 S55 with 7,000 miles on it for $88,000. They also sold a 2002 CL55 with 10,000 miles for $90,000.
So, there are people that are willing to pay the price for a clean car. The problem is finding them. For the private party this is where the problem starts.
Dealers of course get a lot more potential customers than the private individual.
What you need to figure out is what price you are willing to take to move the vehicle. I wouldn't hold out for the highest price nor would I take the lower prices.
I would be happy finding somewhere right in the middle. The question is what is the middle price in your mind. Come up with that number and see what happens.

hey adam,
it's amazing the difference in price between the east and west coasts. 80000 was the bottom number for me. i'm going to sit on it for a few days and see if anything else pops up. it seems that selling an expensive automobile is a lot harder than buying one.
