2002 S430 Driver Side Mirror Wobbles

I have searched the forums and cannot find an answer to this problem...
The driver side mirror works fine but the whole assembly moves around and flaps in the wind, wobbles when driving...It's not the cover, its the whole assembly....Would really appreciated any info on how to fix this ....

Also, the button for the mirror adjustments inside the car has fallen off and is broken and will not stay on........Can just the button be replaced??? Thanks for any help...

A mirror wobbles when it was dislocated from the front forcibly, for instance
someone inadvertantly walked inti the mirror.

The rule is do not force it back by hand. Use the electric folding buttons you find under
the four-way adjustment button you seem to lose.

First push the in-button (nearer to the dash), the mirrors fold in against the window. The push the out-button, mirrors fold out and click in position. No more wobbling.

It is unlikely the adjustment mutton can be replaced alone, as the dealer for information.

Thanks for the reply, but the mirror body on this car is not electric....just the mirror, not the whole assembly ...

Are you sure?

Do you have two smaller button positioned under the 4-way control?

Pages 104-107 in the manual describe the mirror controls, there is nothing there about an optional fold.

I also drive a 2002 S430 base model.

If you really not have an electric fold, you have to pull off the sleeve (the backside cover), and see what went loose.

Good luck for the search.

Here is a video posted on youtube that might help you with removing your mirror to see what is causing the "wobble".

Don't feel bad, many of us had similar experience with some gadgets or electronics. Maybe those who did not just do not know about it.

As for your airmatic, unfortunately, or I might rather say fortunately I do not have first hand ecxperience. But I read loads of threads on this topic, and you may want to do more research on the forum.

Right the top thread "S-class ownerst start here" begins with airmatic references. If you page down the threads, will find many in seconds.

What I know for fact is that the worst idea is to wait and watch if it goes away. It does not, and if the overload blows the pums the fix will be considarblu more expensive.

My guess is that you have a leak somewhere at the lines, it may cause erratic, seemingly unrelated pressure loss at various struts.

Good luck to diagnose it quick.
