Replace radiator fan motor?

2000 S430; I am getting a louder than usual and progresively louder sound coming from engine. When I turn it off I hear something still spinning, and the culprit appears to be the radiator fan (it continues to spin after the motor stops like it has always done, but it makes a much louder noise than usual). It turns and does it's job, and I can hear the two different speeds as normal, but is making a higher pitched noise. I figure that maybe the fan motor is about to go?

I have searched threads, but have found no specific instructions and/or diagrams, etc. Can anyone give me advice and instructions as to what I have to do? It is way too old for dealer repair prices.

Thanks in advance

I have seen just the motor for sale on a few euro auto parts websites, so you may not have to replace the entire fan shroud / controller / motor. If you can remove the motor from the shroud assembly, you could attempt to disassemble the motor and see if it's a brushless type and if it has replaceable bearings. The hardest part always for me, is having enough patience and smarts to disassemble the device without damaging it.

Thanks! I found motors on Ebay for about $270, and an entire new, after market replacement assembly (motor, belt, pulleys, cowling) from Am Autoparts (on Ebay) for $265. I know nothing of this company, and have doubts as to quality and reliability at this price. Still, the price is tempting!
After looking at the assembly, I see there are belts and pulleys that drive the blade, so now I am not so sure that it is a motor problem. Motor does appear to run well, so noise could be some moving parts...???
Confounded! I think I may try to remove the assembly and examine the belt and pulleys before I pull the trigger on a motor.
I welcome all advice!
