Thumbs up 220 2005 Mic Off resolved......

Late last night my Iphone 5 software was updated to latest version, then this morning having forgotten about the software update, I reset the battery, made a call and the phone worked. ..... Couldn't believe it !!!!
Now not sure what fixed the issue, battery or the Iphone 5 software update, either way, a beer is the order of the day. Cheers.

My thanks to all who stepped to the plate.

Mic Off

Hello Warren:

From where I sit, you’re the only person in the forum who can answer this question factually.

Just thinking……..Because of battery consumption issues I’ve always kept the car interior lights, that is, the rear view mirror/ensemble turned off, my question is, since the telephone (Mic) is located there as well, could that be the reason my Mic is off?

However, bear in mind that disconnecting the positive side of the battery for 5 minutes resets something and the Mic works fine until I unplug the BT puck, in which case the Mic is turned off once again……Still pondering the issue a bit.

Thanks for your willingness to help us.

First, there are many very knowledgeable people, including technicians, who participate in this forum. Also, there are several very good one who participate on BenzWorld. They have not only the experience, but also access to wiring diagrams that may help to resolve the problem.

Unfortunately, I do not have those wiring diagrams, so I am a bit hampered. Also, I am not a tech; I'm a lawyer and a retired pilot, with an engineering background. There are folks who can do better than I at these questions. Bit we'll give it a try.

At figure 3 and at fig. 16 of the '05 phone bulletin at http://phdwebsite.powerpulse.cc/Phon...s/2005%20S.pdf I note that the microphone connector for the MHI/VCS microphone has six wires. This suggests to me that it is powered from the same source that powers the Tele-Aid mic.

Unfortunately I do not know what that source is - but I doubt it as anything to do with switch positions in the overhead console. If you have pulled a fuse to keep the lights off, then possibly it could cause the problem - but without wiring diagrams, that is speculation on my part.

One way to test the microphone is to see if your voice control works with features other than the phone. Try using various voice control commands - zooming the nav screen, for instance - anything would do. If it works, the problem is not the mic itself - it is something amiss in the phone system.

If voice control doesn't work, check fuse 86. Then, if the voice control won't respond properly, then the problem is the mic itself or possibly the power to it.

Has your Tele-Aid been disabled for any reason? Check fuses 18, 63 and 64 to see that they are OK. I doubt the problem is a fuse, though since you are able to get the mic to work for short times. You could also check the fuses for the overhead console (fuse 77).

Why do you unplug your puck? It should not be necessary.

Smile Mic issue resolved..

Again, thanks for the copious response you provide us all.

Yes, many individuals here may be auto technicians, but none can explain issues as clearly, and succinctly as you do, so many of us completely devoid of technical dexterity recur to you frequently. Besides, the willingness to help others comes crashing through in the responses you always afford the forum.

Regarding the BT puck, the last three times my battery died the puck was plugged in, now my car is always trickle charged in order to avoid buying another new battery. Will have the car checked for a short somewhere, I have not done it yet because believe it or not, in ten years, if I made three calls from a car, any car, is way to much. But as a typical neurotic person, the Mic should work.

The system does stay live...

Some time back, I happened to walk past my S430 while looking at my cellphone, and saw the car Bluetooth system capture the phone. The car had been off since the night before.

No idea how much power the system pulls, but I have no problem with the battery going flat. I do drive the car several times a week.

Yeap... That is my problem, I don't drive it so often, the S500 is outside and easier to drive off.

:-(
