w220 error 1256 problem

I have a 2004 s500 that does not blow cold air sometimes. It gives the error code 1256 at times (which I just reset every time). I have already replaced the evaporator temp sensor and it did not solve the problem. I'm not sure if I should try putting another evaporator temp sensor or do what the dealer had suggested over the phone, which is replace the compressor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I seriously doubt that an air conditioning compressor will have an intermittent problem that would justify replacement, especially at MB dealer prices.

You can do significant testing of the AC with no tools at all. When the car throws the code and is not giving cold air, leave the engine idling, and very cautiously feel of the AC lines near the compressor. If one line is cold/very cool, and the other line is hot/very hot (caution - it can be hot enough to cause a burn!), the compressor is not the problem.

Refrigerant

No Refrigerant is what the code means I had the same problem and the same code for my Benz and after I added refrigerant it went away completely
