Acceleration Problem
Have a problem with my 01 S500 today. When I press the gas peddle nothing happens for a few seconds then the car will go, I can press the pedal to the floor and nothing, but once it starts going it is fine. If I keep pressure on the gas peddle it accelerates no problem, but it I take all pressure off the pedal, when I press it again, it takes a few seconds before the car wants to go.
Strange one to me, the car is not actiing like it is going to stall, just a delay in acceleration.
Any ideas?

Sounds like the accelerator pedal module is going. Very common problem with this car at about that age. Do a search. The part is $200 and is easy to replace yourself.
When it goes the transmission and engine control units get contradictory information about pedal position. You wind up starting in fifth gear. If that's what it feels like you're experiencing, try replacing that part first. If it's not the problem, you've just saved yourself another failure in the future.

Mine was done on warranty so I don't have first-hand knowledge, but I think there's a single nut holding the accelerator module to the firewall. The nut is under a cap. You swap the electrical connector and are done.

You replace it in the driver's footwell.

Problem Solved
Got the part:
Simply take a plastic cap off, then undo the bolt, disconnect two connectors, old assembly comes out. Simple reinstall
Takes all of about 10-15 minutes.

BTW, part # is: 220 300 00 04 as seen on the box (not 220-380-00-07)
Dealer told me it couldn't be the accelerator pedal and was adamant about the transmission
Another independent shop told me it could be the actuator ( a $600 part)
I bought it at a local mercedes shop for $150 with tax and replaced it in 15 minutes also.
Thanks again whoover

Thanks for the info. I have a s430 and I had the same problem. My ODBII reader was giving me an error code of "p0120" but I could not figure what sensor that was or where it is located. I will now go and look for this part. Has anyone else also had the same error code and changed this sensor out? Thanks again. Everyone has been helpful.

Like I said earlier, just drop in a new pedal module. If it isn't the problem you can be confident it will be some day soon. But it's usually the problem.

Great info everyone.
My 01' S500 does the same thing from idle to acceleration.
Another thing I noticed is that when im driving if I floor it, its a slug, the motor feels like it has no power because it feels as its in the wrong gear, even upon pressing the "button" on the bottom of the pedal position. Happens at any speed.
Could this also be related to the same pedal module???

Sounds like it. I'd just replace it. It's about a 5-minute DIY and in the rare event it isn't your problem you've avoided a future on.

A similar problem to what I have on occasion. Sometime when I punch it, the transmission doesn't fully engage. Only happened twice. However, I cut the car off, restart it and everything works fine. The only problem is when I'm on the interstate pulling over to restart the car is not pleasant and kind of embarassing. Thanks for the info.
