22in rims safe to put on 02 s430?
Hey guys I am new to this site and this is the 1st benz i have ever owned, I have heard rumors that putting 22in rims on a 00-06 s class is really rough on the suspension and transmission. I was looking to get some but i am trying to research 1st, obviously i like the way they look but i would prefer performance and keeping my car in top shape as compared to it just looking good. if anyone here could tell me if this will be damaging to my car at all i would appreciate it. Thanks, Travis

The main concern is getting the right offset 22s . All rims fit different and its very easy to get the wrong rims when going that big - there's not much safety margin between hitting suspension or fender with rims that size . So getting the proper fitment is essential . Never buy the rims online or from a different car as they are unlikely to fit properly . Only buy from a custom rim shop that will install them
And guarantee fitment . The biggest problem is when some kid buys cheap 22s online that dont fit right, and drives anyway as they scrape the suspension and fender
The second issue is that yes , 22s are heavier and harder on the suspension components and wheel bearings . The tires and rims are also more susceptible to pothole and curb damage . Fuel use and braking distance will be worse too

Hey thanks for the advice man i appreciate it, it sounds like it might just be a better bet to go with 20's instead of 22's to keep it safe and optimize performance. My only thing with 20's is my car already came with some chrome amg 19's and im not sure its even worth the money for 20's at this point.

My current ones are 19's and im thinking of possibly going to 20's. But in a W220 thats the biggest i would go, anything bigger than that and its going to look plain silly. 22's would look Dub City, especially if you go chrome.
