A Lucky Save on a Failure
Last Friday, a friend and his wife were traveling thru middle Georgia in his 2002 S430. While reentering I-75 at Macon, the transmission remained in second gear, and he lost power steering. He crept and coasted a short distance to the next exit and into a conveniently-located gas station.
As he expected, a quick look under the hood showed a missing serpentine belt, due to a missing idler pulley. An interested spectator commented that he thought there was a Mercedes Benz dealer on that side of Macon.
A quick smartphone check of the web located the dealership and its phone number. When called, the Service Manager said that they had the idler in stock, but that they were closing in thirty minutes. When he found where they were, he suggested that Rob just immediately drive the one-half block (!) to the dealership, and they would take care of him.
Thirty minutes and $135 later, he and his wife were on their way north...
