2005 S500 4 Matic
Expert Advice Needed
have a 2005 S500 4matic. 90K on it today
at 70K noticed very rough noise coming from the front when backing out of the driveway turning right or left. then it continued on slow turns. very annoying and drove me nuts until this team on this forum said "change your transfer case fluid" problem went away immediately, thank you.
Now just recently at about 90k, a similar noise has returned a little. I say a little because when it warms up, meaning driving for a little, the noise completely goes away for the rest of the day. Only happens when i make my first right or left turn 50ft from my driveway. Doesn't happen when backing out really. Once it warms up, it goes away. And I'm not even sure the noise is coming from the front.
Changed and flushed transfer case fluid 2x
Changed and flushed differential fluid 2x
being as particular as i am, this is annoying. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks Frank

Check for a recall or service bulletin on the transfer case. Some earlier model year 4Matics had them replaced. I had thought the problem was resolved in the version you and I have.

Sky, thanks and yes I check that originally but mine isn't covered and I did some figure 8's Ina lot and really think its coming from the rear. It's not the same noise as when I needed to change the transfer case fluid.
