S430 Trunk lid opening/closing systemt

2002 S430 w/ Trunk lid opening/closing system.

Automatic trunk does not open with FOB, switch on driver's door nor button located at trunk.

I can use the key to open manually but it's hard to maneuver the key.

All door locks work with FOB. The door switch closes the trunk as does the switch located at the trunk. I do hear air when the trunk switch is press.

The key switch at the trunk does not open the trunk.

When I removed the lock mechanism in the lid, I noticed the vacuum "puck"
was broken. I super glued it and wrapped with electrical tape just to isolate the issue but had no luck.

Do you think I should replace the entire lock assembly. Circumstances are that I must evaluate and fix myself.

Thanks for any and all suggestions/recommendations.

Here is a writeup from the benzworld forum that might be related to your issue.
Might help out a bit. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...k-problem.html

The trunk opening (and to a lesser degree, closing) is sensitive to vacuum. If the trunk lid mechanism was broken, I fear it will have to be replaced. I've never heard of a successful glue-repair job. It does not take much of a leak for the system to fail. I suspect the system is trying to unlatch the lid, but with a vacuum leak, the latch will not disengage. Bite the bullet and replace the Latch Mechanism first. It may solve the problem. But without it known to be good, any additional troubleshooting is pointless. Good luck.
Cheers,
Jeff

I had a similar issue, but it was electrical. The wiring that ran to the lock had stretched and finally broke. Before it finally stopped working altogether it was erratic as sometimes there was enough of a connection and at other times there wasn't. MB dealership replaced the wiring and it has been fine ever since. Wire wasn't expensive but labour cost a bit. If I had more time at the time I would have done it myself. They told me it was a fairly common item to go on these models.
