STUCK IN LIMP MODE!

STUCK IN LIMP MODE!
My car will not shift out of 2nd gear. Took the car for diagnostic. The crooks at the dealer told me I needed to replace the conductor plate on the transmission. Replaced the conductor plate ...still in limp mode... ![bs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bs.gif)
Go back to the crooks and they tell me now we need to replace the TCU(Tranny control unit) because of water damage, but when I read my receipt it clearly stated "CHECK FOUND DTC IN TRANS FOR Y3/6Y3 SOLENOID VALVE". Problem is the service advisor said nothing about this when it was time to pay! He said they charged me $285 to reprogram my valve body.
Bunch of crap... So MEMBERS can any one help me here? Should I just replace the solenoid? Will it immediately fix the issue? PLEASE HELP!!!

conductor plate is a common failure part, so dealers will start off by replacing that. Now the solenoids will have to be transferred from your old plate to the new one. So if the problem is still present the conductor plate was not the issue you will have to replace that solenoid.

It could be the only way that DIYers keep replacing parts base on guessing. The dealer is so called dealer because they should has the knowledge/skill/ability/tools/computer/database/procedure/what ever you name it, to know exactly what is wrong, or at least more accurate than just replace related parts and charge what ever they want.
How could they dismiss the customer without really address the issue, plus they still charge 100%.
It is just because the dealer is using this kind of excuse so they could take money out of customer's pocket as if it's their purse, not base on what is wrong on the car but base on what's the billing target they need to achieve.
That's why DIY is cheaper, not because labor, it's because DIYer try to address the real issue.
How bad it could be if a knowledge armed professional use their skill to walk you around without addressing the real issue until they think they achieve their 'target'.
Sorry, it's just my thought about cases like OP has, nothing relates to you.
