"A" and "B" maintenance intervals

"A" and "B" maintenance intervals
My 2006 S-350 maintenance should be every 13,000 miles or yearly, whichever comes first.
I only drive approx 6,000 miles yearly. The message for maintenance due comes on after about 5,000 miles. It did this for the first owner and it has been doing the same for me since 9/2009. After maintenance is performed the tech resets the counter to 13,000 miles and it counts down OK but warning message come back on when it has counted down to between 7,000 to 8,000 miles, which is usually several months less the a year.
Don't know if this happens because 90% of my trips are short 10-15 miles, total yearly mileage approx. 6,000, or this smart car wants maintenance sooner?
Anyone experience anything similar?
