Body Damager

Guys, some ******* hit my S-430 in the parking lot and scraped the passenger side quarter panel. There are two dents that can be removed and most of scrape can be buffed out. About 3mm of the scrape is a scratch. Should I get the whole damn thing painted or let them buff it out. Mercedes said they can buff about 90% of it. The lady said that it will look like a small nick when its all done. Insurance has already given me a check to get the whole thing re-painted. But will the re-paint look the same as factory?

What color is the car? If its black, forget about achieving "factory finish". The application of the paint will not match the painting machines at the factory. I would let them try to buff it out first, then consider repainting if not satisfied...

Its Tectite Grey. The lady told me to just get it buffed. Even she agreed that nothing can match factory paint.

Contact Sikkens (they are the OEM MB paint provider) local rep to your area. Ask the person who is the best paint shop in town that he provides the Sikkens product then use them.

Get it repainted. I had whole side of my S600 from front bumper all the way down driver side to rear bumper painted (black car) and the new paint looked better than factory OEM.

Most shops do worse than factory OEM.......very few shops actually do exceed the factory finish with their work.

thats another problem. whether the repainted area is better or worse than OEM the real issue is "matching" it to your current finish. i would think dark grey would be one of the easier colors to blend with the car, given that the paint they use is quality. just make sure you take it to a high end shop who wont cut corners.

True....the actual art comes into play when the senior finishing man polishes clearcoat to the matching level of other areas. Although, what I did was pay extra to have entire cars clearcoat polished to new level rather than matched to an old shine.

Guys and update on my car. I got it back today and mercedes did an awesome job. They had dent master come over and perform paintless dent removal which cost about $350. Then mercedes buffed the paint and I guess did some wet sand also. But man it CANT be seen at all that anyone hit the car. I am definitly glad that I made the right choice by not getting the quarter panel repainted

Merc, aren't benz use 'glasurit' brand, lamborghini paint use 'sikken'. It would be nice though to paint benz with lambos paint but it will be too expensive unless insurance paid for it.

I'm fairly certain that MB uses Sikkens for entire line up.

There's a cool new clearcoat coming out on the new S that comes from the development of the Maybach. Currently, MB uses a fairly soft clearcoat....better shine and depth than the Japan or American paints..........but swirls a lot easier.

The new Maybach uses a new "ceramic" clearcoat that gives even deeper shine and depth but is almost impossible to get a swirlmark on.....also the finish is supposed to be totally acid rain proof
