Xm Radio
Just spent the day buying a new XM radio...I ended up with the Sony portable unit because every place I went told me the same thing..None of the built in units will work on 2000 + Benz cars due to the fibre optic wiring of the radio...Has anyone else tried to install XM radio and if so, what was involved..I have a 2001 S-600

it can be done... read this
I have installed more than a few Pioneer FM-Modulated XM receivers in W220 - it is pretty easy to install but you must remember that the sound quality degrades a bit due to the fact that it goes to the radio as a FM signal. despite of the ads, and I DO have XM radio with a pioneer head-unit in my truck, the XM broadcast is NOT CD quality!!! it is more like streaming internet radio then CD quality, technically, XM only has 4 MHz of bandwidth to transmit about 100 channels. even with the best compression techniques, you just CAN'T do it!
It's surely better than FM radio. the coverage is superb, at least in NYC and surely on the highway. only very few "dead spots" mostly under bridges and trains... \it's probably the best thing ever happend to radio.
