TPMS for PRE facelift w220's... Which tire sensor?!?!

Ok so i know this topic has been covered before and I've already done a ton of searches regarding this but every thread I've read deals with the facelift 03+ models. I have an 01 S500 and according to my data card my car came with TPMS. I've looked at my front tower struts in the engine bay and I see the TPMS antennas on each strut tower. I believe the previous owner disabled the system since I do not see the TPMS menu in the cluster and the wheels on the car when I bought the car are not the original wheels that came from the factory and do not have sensors in them. I would like to get the TPMS up and running again but before I have the system activated at the dealership, I'd like to know which sensors to buy. I've read that the 315mhz sensors are used on all USA model cars no matter what year. But I've also read that the pre-facelift cars use a different frequency than facelift cars. Also when I do a search on my vehicle on vendor sites, the sensors that come up are the 433mhz version.

So what sensor am I supposed to be using?

If I am recalling correctly, EPC (Mercedes Parts Catalog) lists the frequency with the TPMS description. Have the dealer look-up the TPMS sensor for your particular car on their parts catalog and ask if it shows the frequency.

From what I've gathered from other posts on other forums, it seems that I'm supposed to have the 315mhz sensor. I will verify from the dealership when I go there to check my malfunctioning parktronic sensors. Thanks for the help

very simple: when you go to your dealer, have them check out the build data sheet for your car (you say the data card it has it); this will establish if or of not your car has TPMS.

After that, they can decide if it was potentially de-activated because of non-standard rims and with DAS re-activate.

It may not be a good investment ($450.00 + for the sensors) if you can do the same with a tire gauge.

Find out first the top paragraph; also, update your profile for your car & location.

BTW: sensors are 315 mhz.

I had so many problems with my TPMS that I asked the dealer disable it. Went out and bought a portable air pump for about $25 and solved any potential problem. Now I just manually check my tire pressure when washing the car and use the pump if necessary. Problem solved. Having said all that it can be a nice feature when working properly. Otherwise, it can be a pain in the you know what.

I figured that most people have the dealer disable the TPMS function due to malfunctions and because changing the sensors in the tires are a pain once the batteries go dead. However I'll be buying brand new sensors so I'm hoping that TPMS function will work for the next several years.
