Wipers Stop in Middle of Windshield at Sensor / Intermittent Speed
On my 2003 S430 RWD, the wipers work fine except, in sensor mode (position 1), they come to a random stop occasionally while rain is steadily falling. The wiper blades will end up stranded in the middle of the windshield. And it's still raining.
If I then just switch to low speed (position 2), then back to sensor position (1), it restarts them in sensor mode. The usually operate fine in sensor mode for a good while before a recurrence. I just read on a forum that, with engine running and driver door closed, switching from position 0 to 3, then back to 1, can reset the a wiper system that isn't running at all in sensor (pos. 1) mode. My case is different as mine simply randomly stop. Any ideas? Thanks.

It's the wiper motor for sure. When they start to wear out, they do this.
Mine started doing this, and a week later the motor completely died. A friend who fixes MB's said when they start doing this, you either have to repair the motor (as mentioned in the other post) or replace it right away or it will die.
I bought the motor online, but mine died before the package arrived so I had to go to the dealer and buy one as I was stranded.
Still have the brand new one sitting on a shelf if anyone wants it. I'd have to look up what it's worth but feel free to price it out and shoot me an offer. It's brand new never used.
