Electronic Key Problem

Hi,
I have a problem with my electronic key. It only works when I point it to the little black square on the driver side door handle.
It does not work if I stay in the front of the car, or any other places. I have changed the battery. I also have a spare key, but it act in the same way.

The infrared portion of your keys is working. The RF portion locks the door, after I have open it with the infrared portion, and if I try to open the door just after I have locked it, the RF portion also works , but if I wait for 1min., the RF portion will not work.
The car is a 1999 W220 S500L
Is there any part I can check or replace?
Thank you
Jan

I recommend you replace the battery (again). Sounds similar to my experience. First set of Batteries I had purchased from the store were no good.

Thanks for the tip. I'll buy a new battery tomorrow, and see if that helps.

GrepAwk,
I bought a new battery today, but it didn't fix the problem.

I have the same issue with my 2003 S500. After I start it and it runs for 10 minutes or so the fob work for a short time . It seems like a pressure issue or a RF reception issue. I have taken it to 2 different mechanics and they both have different ideas but haven't found the solution. One says is either the antenna in the rear glass (hope not) or the RF amplifier. They other thinks there's a leak in the pneumatic air lines but have not found any leaks. I guess it's off to the dealership. Uuuugggghhhh

I have been to a workshop, but they can't find anything wrong, except for that there is nothing wrong with the pneumatics. One funny thing, if I disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes, the fob works for maybe a week, and that should also exclude the RF sending/reception.
