2000 S500
center cluster light goes out after a couple minutes
New to the Mercedes world so be gentle. I recently picked up a 00 S500. Ive been missing out. My problem is after driving a couple minutes the light behind the top of the speedo goes out the rest of the light flutter a little for 5-6 seconds then are fine. The rest of the lights are fine. After shutting the car off for a little while it works again same process. Also the dimmer doesnt dim the cluster lights down just the trim lights. Ive read some posts about the (transformers ?) Going bad over heating. But the symptoms didnt sound completely like mine. Am i just in the early stages of failure or could it be something else. Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance.

You are past the ten year cluster warranty that applies to all cars , but some vin numbers were also recalled which had no expiration
Call a m.b dealer give them your vin and ask them to check their computer if the cluster recall applied to your vin
If you're not in the recall there are a number of sellers who offer to refurbish clusters , on eBay and elsewhere

As Tusabes mentioned call the dealer (they are going to deny you at first because that is what they are told to do). Depending on where you live it might be best to stop by a dealership. Walk in like a boss but don't be a jerk. If no resolution from the dealer call the MB headquarters in NJ. Good luck.
