potential S500 purchase
Hi All,
I'm looking at buying a 2000 S500. It's GCC spec and located in the Kingdom of Bahrain where I am working for the next few years. The owner has replaced the A/C compressor, radiator, radiator fan, suspension system, tune up over the last 2 years.
It has 137000 miles on it, and shows its age for this area. Some interior trim is broke, some exterior trim is missing, The door locks stopped working after the last wash and the trunk only releases with the key. The rear window is cracked top to bottom, the sunroof is stuck in the up vent position and there is some cancer strips showing on the driver's side where the door seal meets the body.
This would be a daily driver for work, 14 to 20 miles a day. The owner is asking 4000$ for it. Do the new parts outweigh the bad? Or should I keep looking for something else.

You shouldn't get a 2000 S class as they are the worst generation of S class. Try to get a 2004+ model, and don't get an S class with 160,000+ miles on it because more than likely you will spend more money on repairs than what its worth.
Overall that car sounds like total junk and is not worth $4000. I got my 2003 S430 for $5600, looks like new inside and out, and only has 105,000 miles on it. Owner sold it right after the Mercedes 100,000 miles extended warranty ended.

The only reason I looked at it was the price range. 4K here in Bahrain gets a 2007 Daihatsu sirion or a 2006 Pug 307 hatchback. The Daihatsu has the all powerful 78HP engine. I'll keep looking. Thanks for the advice.
