2003 s350 bottom seat heater not working

Hello guys,

Ever since I had part of the leather on the bottom of the driver's seat replaced, I lost all heat from the bottom while the back heating still works perfectly.

I am guessing the person forgot to plug a wire back in or there is a loose connection somewhere.

Does anyone know what can be done in this case?

Thanks!

Have a continuity test done on the heating element. I could be that it was damaged when the seat bottom was replaced. This is in addition to what you mentioned. If the element is open then you will have to have it replaced.

Thanks but I have no clue how to access the heating element. Continuity testing is easy but what must be done to reach it?

The connectors will be under the seat most likely at the rear. If the seat back and bottom are in parallel you will get a reading. Lets hope there are two connectors.

Ok so I've found the cable for the bottom heater which is separate from the back heater and it is not shorted with a resistance in the 300 mega ohms range so no continuity there. Compared it to the passenger seat which gives me an ohm reading of 2.61.

Maybe the cable got cut or stripped somewhere near the attachement point.
How can I gain access to the heating element to see what the problem might be?

Thanks!

If the replacement leather was OE from MB then the heating element and foam is part of the whole assembly to replace. Likewise the heating element would come out with the original leather. If its an aftermarket repair then I would suspect that you no longer have the element in the seat. There are 3rd party elements though that could be inserted that are a matrix design and much more reliable if part of the heater gets broken.
I have a pair of these new somewhere in the garage.
