Error Code P0715

My car has been giving me pre-safe warning messages and the check engine light finally went on today. I had the codes read and it gave me P0715 a speed sensor "A" circuit error. Now I am trying to find out what speed sensor. Can anyone give me more information on this code? 2006 S430 4Matic.

I don't know the answer to the code, but would like to ask how long you were getting the pre-safe message prior to the check engine light, and how did you pull the code? I may be working a like issue and want to compare notes.

Thanks,

Mike

The message was coming up once or twice a week for around a month. I had the Autozone guy put his reader on the car to give me the code.

Thanks. I bought my car two weeks ago and it has been on steady. The code reader arrived at my home earlier today- I hope to pull the code and see if they match.

They may or may not. There are many inputs that go into the Pre-Safe system.

Does the car have any type of hesitation to it when driving or stopping at a light? Have you ever changed your Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF).

If not, I would start with the cheapest option and that is to clean the MAF. Get a can of CRC MAF cleaner (about $8), take the MAF out and thoroughly spray it with that cleaner. DO NOT USE BRAKE CLEANER or any other harsh chemicals on the MAF. Once you clean it, let it dry (will only take about 10 minutes to completely dry), put it back in and see if the code goes away.

The engine is running well. After initial start out it will be normal then you will feel a very rough shift, after that the pre-safe comes up and the tranny does not shift any further. Not sure what gear it ends up in but for 50 MPH the engine speed is 3k RPM. I still have no idea what component is causing thiis. My MB Mechanic can't get me in for a week. This is my daily drive so i need to get this resolved.

Its either the transmission electrical connector or the conductor plate. Check the connector for transmission fluid leaking.

the 5 speed tranny has 2 speed sensors; one is for input turbine, one is for output turbine.
When one goes, the tranny goes into limp mode.
Common fault on a lot of trannies.

Electrical Connector replaced with tranny flush around 2 months ago. Checked TCU for oil and it is clean. I suspect that Kraut56 may be right. I droped the car at my indy for diagnosis. We will see what happens. I should have replaced the conductor plate when i flushed the tranny. We will see later this week.

OK, I got word back from my indy that the valve body assembly "conductor plate" needs to be replaced. I should have changed it when I did the system flush 2 months ago, lesson learned, and cheaper. I will let you know if anything else changes.
