Which Star DAS scanner for W220?
My car is in limp mode and the local mechanics, even the Euros, are useless where I live. I need to get my hands on a DAS scanner and at this point want to buy one. It seems my car has a lot of problems and I think it's worth the investment and I can always resell it when I'm done with it
Can anyone here recommend a good place to buy one? I have searched this site but have not been able to find which one is for W220 is it C3 or C4? I specifically want to be able to reset out of limp mode after repairing the problem so I need one that does that.

I got a c3 machine from cnautotool.com A lot of places sell the same thing. After a year though the t30 laptop it came with quit working. Thankfully those are cheap on eBay so i just bought another and swapped the hard drive. Anyway it works great and is super useful to have. Cheers

The DAS systems cover dozens, if not hundreds, of Mercedes cars, including SMART Cars, Sprinter Vans, etc., etc., so any DAS should certainly cover any W220.
The C3 units connect with cables, the C4 are wireless. I decided I preferred the certainty of hard-wired hook-up.
The prices are very fluid, as this has turned into a competitive arena, and you can buy different systems with or without the laptop. The system consists of:
- The software, which is often on a laptop hard drive.
- The laptop computer. The original system used dedicated IBM T30 laptops and Windows XP, both of which are very obsolete but still work. You can use a later, slightly faster laptop. In any case, load the laptop with max memory. You can buy the system without a laptop, or with a couple of different laptops.
- The multiplexer, which is a vital part of the system. The laptop communicates over a serial port; the multiplexer splits the communication to the proper line in the OBD-II port, and handles the communication to the car's computers.
- The connecting cables. Good cables make the system much more dependable.
- User support, which is very variable.
I bought mine (everything except the IBM T30, which I sourced from eBay for $92) from a company in Shenzhen, China. The basic price of the system was $381 including DHL shipping.
No idea whether the contact info is still current. Ms. Eva Lee responded quickly to emails, and customer support was very good. The equipment quality was amazing - it looked like aerospace equipment. The hardware and software have performed flawlessly. I have no relationship with the company other than as a satisfied customer.
