Flickering lights on meter
Hello,
I read on the forums, youtube that the transformer needs to be changed and there is also a recall on this, but my QUESTION is a LOT of people are complaining that "after" the dealer repaired it ALL sort of lights were lit and they had to "fight" but to no avail
What is the BEST solution out there
1 Buy a used, repaired meter
2.Repair it your self
3.Go to the dealer
Please help

There is a 10 year warranty on the instrument cluster. I had mine replaced free of charge last year. Yours is past the warranty period. There are repair shops on ebay that will fix it for you. I am not sure of the cost. Don't let it go too long before getting it done.

Jason, it will eventually flicker out. I had the same problem where mine would flicker, stop for a couple of months and then start all over. Wouldn't you know that on a trip from NY to NC it completely flickered out. No speedometer, complete darkness. Try driving about 500 miles under those conditions at night. You have no idea how fast you're going. I had to really pace myself with the other cars. Mine was under the recall warranty and MB replaced it for free.
As Iganski mentioned it was 10 year deal which I believe has expired. If your's does go out I would talk to the dealer and try to work out some kind of deal since this was a known problem.

I did create a thread on this forum about this, and at that time the recall warranty was JUST over. Only by a couple of months. Do you think that a MB dealer will replace it right now? If i let the transformer die, would it cause any permanent damage? Or a replacement transformer will bring it back to life?

Details: ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONTAINS GAUGES AND INDICATORS THAT MUST BE ILLUMINATED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS IN OPERATION.
Consequence: DUE TO INADEQUATE ILLUMINATION, THE DRIVER WILL BE UNABLE TO READ THE GAUGES AND INDICATORS, SUCH AS THE SPEEDOMETER, WHICH COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Corrective Action: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULES. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON JUNE 10, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MERCEDES-BENZ AT 1-800-367-6372.

There are no recalls on the instrument cluster. The warranty deal is 10 years from when the car went into service. Don't assume it is through 16. Talk to the service manager at the dealer about the problem and see if they will do anything. Mine was covered because it is a 2006.
