CEL and trans not upshifting
Hey guys im new here, i have had my 2002 s500 for a while. Its been a great car but a few days ago i left the lights on and the battery went dead. Charged the battery put it back in and was fine for a few days. Yesterday i went to the store and noticed the cel was on and car seemed to be stuck in 1st or 2nd gear. Also no gear selection on dash where it says p or r or d and w and s trans mode.
Will an autozone scanner scan the light?
Does this sound like a Trans computer issue?

When you put your battery back in the car did you perform the entire resync process? You could also try putting the key in position 2 (just before starting the car), Now hold the gas pedal down for about 10-15 seconds while the key is in that position. Now while still holding the gas pedal down, turn the car off. Now start the car normally without your foot on gas pedal. See if that will reset your TCU.
You can have the code scanned at autozone or advance auto. They will scan some of the MB codes that are common.

I did not do that procedure the first time and after driving the car 5 miles everything relearned itself and lights were off and car was running great. However i did just try the procedure you told me and it didnt make a difference.
So i can disconnect battery for 5 mins and reconnect and start and engine light is off but trans does not shift. Cel comes on the 2nd time i start the car without even driving it. So i imagine its a hard code. At this point i should really read the code right?

If you read & search the posts here and at Benzworld, you will find that most likely a transmission speed sensor is at fault, but, you need to have the codes read with the MB DAS system.

Ok so i limped to autozone and the one code is a p0600 which is an ecu comm issue
I took out the ecu and removed the cover to look for any signs of damage on the board and nothing.
Is a p0600 a dead ecu code?
Can other things cause this code?

Did you remove the transmission ecu or the engine ecu?
The transmission ecu is known to fill up with oil wicking up from the harness.
NB: The transmission ecu is black plastic with the connectors on top; the engine ecu is aluminum with the connectors at the bottom.
A search on this subject on forums will show lots of experience on this.
Codes are in the stickies.
