Transmission 4-3 downshift bump

I'm new to the forum and recently purchased a 2004 S500 4Matic with 107k miles. I've really tried to read the relevant transmission posts and can't find anything like this. When moderately braking I often feel a 3-2 downshift bump when in "DS". Switching to "DC" seems to lessen the bump, but makes the car slightly sluggish in rush hour traffic. I've done the motor mount test and the mounts seem fine (little engine movement power-braking drive and reverse).
Should I reset the learned logic?

And just to vent, I have the dreaded left license plate light out with a new bulb. Wiring is open somewhere, but who knows where. It will take a day of laying in the trunk trying to find the open wire without destroying the harness.

Any advise on either issue is most appreciated

Check the bulb socket itself. Sometimes water is drawn to this area when it's raining or snowing etc resulting in the socket itself lose continuity. It may not be the answer, but it is a place to start.

As far as the downshift bump, be thankful you have the 5 speed transmission. Resetting the logic would be a good place the start.

Thanks MrBobby. Since you also have a 4matic, another question please. While I had the car on a lift, I noticed that the front left outer CV boot was leaking grease because the inner boot clamp broke. I'm not sure how long the boot was open or how much grease leaked out. I was able to put a regular clamp on and everything seems fine. However, I hear a noise on decel that immediately goes away when I touch the accelerator. It seems to go away as the car warms up? I'm wondering if I should change the transmission fluid?
