How much discount on new S Class ?

My wife's 97 E 420 was involved in an accident and is declared a total loss, fortunately no injuries.
Anyway, we are quite impressed with the way the E class held up and thinking about upgrading to a new S class. I was originally going to wait for the next generation but the situation forces earlier than expected purchase.

Do you have any idea how much discount I can expect on a new S500 ? If I decide to trade in my 03 Porsche Turbo, I am open to the idea of S55. Otherwise S500 or maybe S430 if the discount is right.

Also, I understand that 04s have DVD based NAV. Does it perform significantly better than CD based system ? I am sure it's still not as good as Lexus NAV.

Can't tell you much on discounts because the vary per each of the four cars.

I'd say roughly maybe

S430 : $5000
S500 : $6000
S55 : $8000
S600 : $8000

Be wary, that's just difference between Invoice and retail. Very very sketchy however and you can use it to ballpark figures.

No matter what Mercedes does, heck they could have the entire navagation system on flash memory, it'll never compete with those coming from the Japanese companies. Whooptidoo, Mercedes finally got DVD nagivation four years AFTER my Honda Odyssey. Oh, and it's touch screen

The only thing I have agianst the Lexus NAV is that they have lawyers watching you and won't let you change it during motion.

Go for the S55, try out a test drive and I promise you'll love it. It's not Porsche Turbo, but it is a V8 Kompressor You can't go wrong with a 493hp 516lb-ft torque rocket.

What really works out well is find out all the dealers that you would think of going to that sell the car you want, spec it out to your dreams, and wipe off a few thousand and fax the entire list to all those dealers, give them a time frame to get back to you at and then pick the one who you like best.
