Hey all I recently picked up a used 2004 S430 and I want to add Sirius to it. I have read the 2004 w220's were pre-wired and I confirmed it using the window sticker, it says pre-wired right on it. So I went and purchased a SDAR from a 2005 w211 part number A211 870 67 90. I have done a lot of searching and googling and I have found a lot of older threads that either ended with people having the dealer do the install or with pics that no longer show up.
Can someone please tell me what I need to do to install this? I plan to use an aftermarket antenna instead of the MB antenna.

 

I just just did one myself about a mouth ago (11/2015) on a 06' S500

1. Are they pre-wired? The good news is that the fiber optic controller should be coded. The wires under the trunk lid for the antenna should be there. The Optical connector on mine is partly there. The connector to the sirius module in the trunk has 1 connector into the unit with power wires and a holder for the fiber optic loop socket. The fiber optic was not there and needed to be added (Jumped) into the fiber control ring. This took 1 fiber cable jumper and a socket end. The Fiber optic connectors are "TYCO MOST" style.

2. Antenna. Factory unit used a 2 wire input for Sat and Ground Repeater input. So, you can use a single or a single with a splitter into that unit. The connectors are called FAKRA connectors and have a different Key slot based on color code. White to white and blue to blue. Where this might come into play is that you may need to remove the outer lock ring to use a say Pink to Blue to make things work with a non stock antenna. All sirius/XM antennas are in the same Freq. range, so you can adapt if needed. The old Stock 2 wire antennas are no longer available from Mercedes. The regular Sirius aftermarket antennas use a SMB connector and you can get a FAKRA to SMB adapter if you want to not drill your trunk lid and run a magnetic instead.

3. Mounting bracket. You will need to figure out how to make a bracket to mount the Sirius module or secure with zip ties. There are mounting studs on the bottom of the module if you make a mounting bracket/ Plate.

The Sirius module sits on top of the nav changer in the trunk on the left hand side. The connectors should be found there for antenna and power and are different shaped from Voice module plugs that might be there.

The fiber optic cables are orange. Look on the left side for one running to the the passengers compartment with a black plastic junction/ Splice point(box) on it.

This fits into the power socket for the Sirius module.

You will need a double connector (1355531) and a TYCO fiber optic jumper cable that fits it. You might need to buy a connector with 2 fiber attached and pull one side. Check youtube or online for how to remove cables from connector.

The "simple" version is"
1 Find the single fiber optic connector and split cables. Leave the connector side attached to the cable going up to passenger compartment (Head Unit).
2. Take the other side "Send" cable and put it in the double connector on the arrow side pointing "In" to the unit. Put your jummper fiber cable as the "out" / Receive to the single connector to complete the loop of units.
3. Insert into power connector for unit and connect.
4. Find Antenna cable under trunk lid liner on right side of lid. Install Antenna into harness and secure antenna to trunk (magnetic or drilled/Permanent factory style)
5. Attach antenna FAKRA connectors to Sirius module. Note: if you are using a single wire antenna, you might need to swap these if you get an antenna error or searching for signal error.
6. Turn on head unit and switch to sat input.
you should see
- ESIDN number -- The head unit is seeing the module
- Acquiring signal error is stuck - Obstructed sky view or The Sat side of the module is not connected, the Ground side is.. Swap FARKA.. Remember the ends are color keyed so you will need to swap them.
-Updating - It is getting signal and updating channel listings -
- Preview channel and here audio, then you are good to go and call Sirius for the subsciption.

7. Mount the Sirius module in the trunk if all is working
8. Re-install trunk trim.

Remember that the factory install was around $1200 to $1600 for parts and labor and you saved your self a bunch of money.

 

Ok I have read and re-read your post quite a few times and I must say I'm still kind of lost. I know you did an install on a later model s500. I thought the 04 model years were completely pre-wired, at least that is what I read. The Sirius SDAR only has a single blue antenna input on it. I'm sorry I was under the assumption that the 04 was mostly all plug and play, with the addition of an antenna. I can understand how to hook that up but I'm not ashamed to say the MOST loop has me confused as heck. I'm hoping the power and fiber feeds on my car are already ready to plug in and don't require any crazy jumpers or what not. All I want is to hear Howard Stern on my way to work.

The late 05 to 06 w220 (S Class) was less wired. The Original Sirius Module was the A2208201797 and has the 2 wire antenna. Your module maybe compatible with the command head unit. I would pull the trunk covers and see what you have and if you can get the ESDIN # to show up on the command unit. That will let you know at least they will talk.

There is 3 cargo hooks with a T20 screw and a plastic button stud along the top side near the trunk hinge. You pull the center button out (expander) and then the outer part will come out. A cheap set of interior tools from harbor fright or amazon will help. The "Stereo Install tool set" is made for this work and $6.

The trunk square center pins on the rear (of car/ center) trunk cover have 2 small slots in them. I just pry up one side with a small screw driver. The outer center pin pulls straight out. It is easier to remove the left side cover with the rear cover also removed, but I have one it with only with 1/2 of the rear cover loose.
